Welcome to the Black Box, the blog of Phillip Chan.

A Black box is a device that records information during the flight of an aircraft. In that sense, this blog is a recording of the thoughts and events in my life.

While I have my own personal private journal, I write on here so that those who read may be blessed, edified, encouraged, convicted, and as John the Apostle wrote, “that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” I hope it will encourage believers in their pursuit of following and loving this Jesus.

About Me

I was born and raised in Chicago. I grew up in a non-Christian family and gave my life to Christ at the end of 7th grade. I initially fell off the track a spiritually, but since high school, the Lord has started growing an unquenchable fire in my heart and I have never been the same since. I changed from a wild and crazy kid to a person who is wild and crazy about Jesus.

Some more facts about me:

  • My highest aim in life is to love Jesus with all my heart, mind, and soul.
  • I am a student at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA
  • God has called me to be a manifold Christian leader–preacher, a pastor, evangelist, healer, apostle, and a missionary-sending church planter
  • I love basketball, playing guitar, leading worship, and enjoying a good meal.

I'm sure you've heard this a thousand times over but I figure it's okay.

Phil, the little tune up makes "blackbox" officially black. đŸ™‚

Just wanna say, Keep the good work. Your life itself is your biggest ministry. I am for sure a little "invisible" sheep getting inspired by your writings always. So count yourself as shepherd nomatter what you do. You are so good.

I just stumbled upon your blog today, and was greatly encouraged! I specifically read a few of your posts on serving in ministry and “burning out”, and it was such a great reminder about the perspective I need to have when serving in church! Thanks for reminding me that I need to be a lover of Christ first and foremost, not a worker.

Hello Jeff, so inspired and encouraged by these solid discipleship values. I wish every pastor everywhere, could hear this, and do a series. Blessings, Loren

You gave your life to Christ?

I love reading your posts!! I can definitely feel the Holy Spirit working in you when I read your posts. I am left encouraged and even convicted at some times and it has allowed me to grow more in my walk with Christ. I love how you tie what it means to Christian with what is going on in this world. I have struggled with understanding my Asian American Background and how to make sense of Our president elect Trump in the midst of what God calls me to do. But your blog has given me so much insight and it is truly a blessing!!! Praise God!

Under your testimony of “manifold ministry” you wrote HEALER. Would you please elaborate?
