[And Jesus said,] “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down and estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it? For if he lays the foundation and is not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule him, saying, ‘This fellow began to build and was not able to finish.’”
Luke 14:28-30
What a convicting question Jesus asks to those who have decided to follow Him: You want to follow, but do you know the cost of following and are you willing to pay it?
We often abuse the word “everything,” so let me put things into perspective by starting small: What if following Jesus cost you your education? Your school? What if it cost you your job? What if it cost you your family? Your brothers, your sisters, your mother, your father? What if following cost you your dignity? Or your pride? What if it cost you your health? What if it cost you your hands? Your feet? Your head?
Now, I can properly ask- What if following Jesus cost you everything? Would you still follow?
