This post is written to address the pervasiveness and the depth of perversion to which sexual immorality has and is increasingly corrupting our culture. At this, I have men in mind, especially Christian men.
The topics of sex, sexual desires, sexual accomplishments, sexual material, and objectification of women are not uncommon in everyday conversations I hear and see among men. Worse still, the age at which these conversations take place is getting lower and lower. Our sexually charged culture does a good job of glamourizing it, laughing about it, and inviting everyone to go deeper into it. But all of this hides a very plain fact about this whole issue: that our amarous incline is not freedom, it’s slavery.
Men are now slaves to their desires. Pornographic material explores and invents new ways and possibilities for unmet desires to be birthed. Like bridled horses, they drag men where to go and when to go and what to see. This is the reason for why people rape.
Yet I argue that there is little, in what goes inside a man, that separates rape from watching porn. It literally destroys the soul of a man.
And unfortunately in this problem, their loved ones get dragged in as well. Wives are left helpless because they cannot meet their husband’s unnatural sexual desires. How many divorces are based on the grounds of “unmet needs”? What can be said about hurting relationships because of women hurt by uncontrollable men? What will men expect of women in sexual fantasies when they enter into a relationship? What will the baggage that men bring be like once the honeymoon is over?
This issue is way beyond just seeing and treating symptoms. I just want to flat out say that I believe the sex issue in our country is a demonic one. There is a satanic stronghold on the lives of men that is fed, upkept, and grown by the kingdom of darkness.
Christian books and pastors, from what I’ve skimmed and read, do a very poor job of addressing sexual purity because they’ve neglected that belief. The Bible shows that, in Revelation 2, Jezebel is an example of this. We need more than cute little strategies, post-it notes, anti-porn computer software, and ways to train our eyes. Brethren, we need deliverance.
There is not a shortage of Christian men I know who are deep into sexual sin and who struggle with it on a daily basis. It hurts me so much to see God’s sons miss out on the grace that could be theirs if they could live free and holy lives.
Brothers! You were called out of the dominion of darkness and into the kingdom of the Son whom God loves! You have become the righteousness of God! You were chosen before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless! It is God’s will for your life that you should be sanctified and to be set apart!
So I propose that we be adamant about doing away with man-contrived strategies and to embrace God’s prescription. Get into God’s word, confess your sins before the Lord, confess your sins to other brothers for healing, get into the place of prayer for extended time and so tenderize your heart, set aside days to fast from food, and seek to obtain the grace of God which allows to “abound in every good work.”
These will rip out the roots of sin within your heart and will wither away the stronghold that the enemy has on you. Your mind and your eyes will become increasingly sensitive to what pleases the Lord. Your soul will become renewed as you delve yourself into the things that feed the Spirit of God within and so transform the sinful nature.
The man who confesses his sin before God will be purified- this promise holds true for men who have sown in themselves decades of sexual sin. Christ Jesus is able to save the utmost! He is the only hope for this problem as He is seeking to deliver you not only from the symptoms, but to make you a new man within!
And so, brethren, here is a word of encouragement:
May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it. Thessalonians 5:23-24
