In most states, lockdowns and COVID restrictions are easing up. Something that I’ve been hearing much for the last year and a half has been a desire from people for things to “go back to normal”. They want things to go back to what things were pre-2020.

Let me tell you something: I don’t want things to back to normal.

I need things to go back to better than before. As much as I have seen people flounder and suffer under the weight of 2020 I am realizing that the person and the way things were prior to 2020 aren’t going to cut it. The pre-2020 version of me won’t survive in 2025. The things I need, things I do, the strengths I have, the weaknesses I still carry with me, NONE of that is going to serve me today.

Isaiah writes

“See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.”
Isaiah 43:19

God’s eyes are always towards the future. Even the manifold and plentiful commands of “remembering” how things were before were only so that the present day hearers would use those to remember how the past would inform who they need to be in the future.

While the whole world is wanting to go “back to normal”. I believe God is calling us to reach higher and to be BETTER than what normal was so that we can seize the time we live in.

Don’t let your mind settle in that idea of “going back to normal”. Change your mind to go “beyond what normal” was.
