There was not a man among the people of Israel more handsome than he. From his shoulders upward he was taller than any of the people.

1 Samuel 9:2

Candidating to become King was Saul. Scripture says the was “handsome” and “taller than anyone”.

If there was going to someone who would be Israel’s first king, it would be Saul. It’s because he looked the part.

In a rockstar-driven society like ours (American) is quickly becoming, people doing ministry are so tempted to look the part but not become the part.

God is looking for anointed warriors for his work, not pretty boys (and girls) who are there to just take Instamgram pictures.

The servants that God is looking for are people of character and integrity, and those who are willing to endure suffering for the kingdom of God.

David was a king after God’s own heart because he was that person (at least for a little while). He didn’t try to look the part, he just gave himself to being the part.

And in this rockstar-driven society that I am living in, I am desperately trying to become the part, and not just look the part. So help me, God.
