When he went ashore he saw a great crowed, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And he began to teach them many things.

Mark 6:34

Jesus’ compassion, in this passage, yields a very direct response from him:

He taught them.

I thought it was interesting that out of his compassion, he taught the crowds. In response to the spiritual hunger exhibited by the people, he fed them with divine truth.

Jesus saw love having divine truth connecting with our hearts.

Divine truth teaches us a better way to live. It gives us heaven’s perspective about reality. It grows and edifies our spirit.

I aspire to be a teacher of divine truth. Who, when I speak, God’s people are loved and cared for. And I aspire to be a teacher who operates out of compassion. Not out of wanting people to hear me, or to be known, but to partner with the compassion of God in feeding and building up his people.
