But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
James 1:22
Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
Matthew 7:24
I wish my level of obedience to God was commensurate with my knowledge of the Bible.
Often I find myself plagued with what the American church is often plagued with: intellectual-heavy Christianity, but action-deprived, and experience-deprived Christianity.
I think Leonard Ravenhill said something profound once. He said that “one day, some simple person will pick up the Bible and actually believe it, and we’ll all look like fools.”
I predict that if I was as obedient as much as I knew God’s word, I would be a radically different person and the world around me would actually encounter the living God.
Oh that my ears would be attached to my heart and to my hands! That the words I hear from God’s word would not fall by the wayside in my mind, conveniently tucked in the category known as “to be applied for others, but not for myself”!
God, help my heart to obey your word as quickly as I learn it.
