“Herod sent and had John the Baptist beheaded in the prison, and his head was brought on a platter…”
Matthew 14:10

There is no honor for those who serve in the kingdom of God. Those who say “Yes” to Jesus and his purposes ought to know what they are getting into. Ministry is not a claim to fame, it is not a platform for your name, and it is not a place to receive and to accept honor from men.

John the Baptist’s life should teach us that enough.

He was, as Jesus ascribed to him, the “greatest of all prophets” and look where he ends up. His head is on a platter before a pagan king at the mercy of a dinner guest. What a way to step into ministry, John.

Those who want to serve Jesus should learn this well- the life of a servant is death to himself. He is only responsible for saying ‘He must increase, I must decrease.”
