He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’ and to the rain shower, ‘Be a mighty downpour.’

Job 37:6

I don’t like rain.

I have to wear non-porous shoes, I have to get my umbrella, I have to watch which curbs I can park on lest my feet get drowned, I have to be careful when I drive, etc…

And then, I was in class today and the professor was giving thanks to God for the rain that was falling today.

It was then I realized my folly.

My annoyance at the rain is a comment from a city guy. It is as a city guy that I am annoyed when God interjects the careful little world that humanity has built, which I know and love, otherwise known as the city.

But as the rain falls on me, and gets in my shoes, and all over my car, it is God’s interruption into the little world that we have created to remind us that it is not that He is in our world, but that we are in His world.
