David prays that Solomon would keep God’s commandments with his whole heart. Not half-heartedly, not compromisingly, not lip-service-like..
David understood the prosperity of his son was not dependent on his wisdom, his strength, or skills, but on his posture before the Lord. This is a pattern seen over and over again in the chronicles of the Kings. God shows great favor and showered great blessings on those who live in loving obedience to Him.
