The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge
Proverbs 1:7
There’s a lot of emphasis placed in the church (from generally older people) about the importance of wisdom. I don’t think anyone doubts that wisdom is important, especially because God values it.
However, we must always be reminded of Solomon’s statement about wisdom here.
He’s saying that true wisdom starts from fearing the Lord. In another way, this is how I understood: Wisdom starts first by understanding the limitations of wisdom. It isn’t an answer for everything.
While we seek wise answers and counsel for problems and situation, I think more importantly is a heart which postured humbly before the all-wise God of the universe. And that is why the beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord.
