Jesus answered, “I told you that I am he. So if you seek me, let these men go”

John 18:8

As the guards come to arrest Jesus, these are the words that he says to them.

As I read it, I got a sudden revelation of Jesus’ love and it hit my heart. Here are two observations I noted:

1) Jesus is committed to seeing that those around him prosper and are well. He could have been every bit selfish and chose to save himself. But even at the point of his arrest, he would take a bullet for his disciples in order that they would benefit.

2) Jesus knew that these disciples that he was saving, that they would be the ones who would abandon him, forget him, and even deny him. Seriously, you have to be a lover if you can do that even for friends who are going to flake out on you.

Jesus shows that he is a mad lover. He is so filled with love that he would even die for enemies. He is so filled with love that he would even die for friends who won’t stand up for him.

My heart is astonished and amazed that Jesus died for me.
