I keep reading the Bible and sometimes I really am awed by all the things that God has called us to be and to do as His people.
He calls to be a holy people, to refrain from evil, to be partakers of his glory, to be citizens in his kingdom, to be mindful of the poor, to be agents of change, to be ambassador’s of his message, to be healers to the sick, to be fathers to the orphans, to be the family of the widows, and on and on and on, the testimony of scripture reveals the depth of the purpose of Jesus Christ in us.
And honestly, sometimes I really lose track of what I need to do and who I need to be in the midst of all these things that the scriptures say about me.
And that’s when Jesus’ super profound statement comes alive: All the law and the commandments that the scriptures testify to hang on this commandment: to love God and love others as ourselves.
Ah.. it makes sense again.
That, my brothers and sisters, is our simple all-inclusive calling.
