But I say to you, Love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you.
Matthew 5:44
In several times in the New Testament, the reality of the Christian life requires us to love our enemies.
How does one actually do that?
How do you bless someone who will not bless you back? How do you love someone who will not love you back? How do give someone good without getting back?
The answer is this: You can love/bless/give to others without expecting anything in return if you have another source of love and blessing.
The source of love and blessing is the love of Jesus.
The love of Jesus is not a fact. It’s not something you can get just by growing up in church. It’s not an intellectual thing. Paul in Ephesians 3 says that Jesus’ love goes beyond knowledge.
It is entity in itself which must be received, and experienced within one’s heart.
How will one know for sure that they’re receiving the love of Jesus? Well… probably when they’re so full of love that they can love and bless their enemies freely. That’s the ultimate test for an overflowing heart.
