It is He Who sent down to you (step by step), in the truth, the Book, confirming what went before it; and He sent down the Law (of Moses) and the Gospel (of Jesus) before this, as a guide to mankind, and He sent down the Criterion (of judgment between right and wrong).

That’s the Qur’an saying that Allah sent the Old Testament and the Gospels as a “guide to mankind.”
This is one of the few verses which is found in the Qur’an which speaks favorably of the gospels as well as Jesus. It serves as excellent bridge for Muslims considering reading the Gospels.
Heads up: A contemporary Muslim belief is that while God did send the OT and NT, they believe that it was corrupted in its transmittance over time, and is therefore unreliable. This belief is not substantiated by what the Qur’an says, nor by external textual evidence of what we know about Bible formation; it’s merely a theological assumption that they have taken.
